North Heights Rezoning

The North Heights section of town could be taking on a different look.

A meeting of Amarillo’s Planning and Zoning Commissioners voted to rezone parts of North Heights , west of Hughes and north of Amarillo Boulevard in a five to two vote.

The vote came after a tour of the area on Monday.

Rezoning the area includes less heavy industrial and commercial and more light industry and retail.

Amarillo Chamber of Commerce officials say the new rezoning would downgrade property in the area, but it would protect business owners property but North Heights homeowners would see their property values downgraded.

This part of the bill will move on to the City Council for a first reading on August 10th.
