Nine People Arrested For Failing To Register As Sex Offenders

Nine people were arrested this month for failing to register as sex offenders.

From May 13th through May 17th, a sex offender compliance check was conducted by the Amarillo Police Department Special Victims Unit Detectives, United States Marshal Service and Texas Department of Public Safety.

Officials checked a total of 662 offenders in the Amarillo area to make sure they were in compliance with their registration requirements. Nine of these offenders were found to be out of compliance and arrested.

One of the suspects, 78-year-old Jerry Lee Werger, was arrested by the US Marshal Service in Oklahoma. The remaining eight suspects were booked in the Potter County Detention Center.
