COA Officials Offer Drought Condition Update
Monday morning, Amarillo City officials held a press conference to provide updated information about the current drought conditions, condition of the reservoir and action needed to avoid moving to Stage 2 Water Restriction.
Assistant City Manager Donny Hooper pointed out that Amarillo has had 34 days where temperatures have crossed the 100 degree mark, The normal is 5 days. When Stage 1 was implemented on the 17th, our reservoir had reached 60 percent of its storage capacity. Since then, that level dropped to 54 percent but is slowly increasing.
Residents, commercial and business customers are asked to continue with voluntary restrictions – odd number addresses watering Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, even number addresses Monday, Wednesday and Friday. No watering on Saturdays.
Stage 2 if needed is the same as stage 1, but becomes mandatory, not voluntary.
