Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension Releases Randall County Wildfire Assessment & Needs
Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension Randall County has released an assessment of Wildfire Damage in the county. The Chocolate Chip, Hungate and Western Fires burned over 35,000 acres. Eighty landowners were affected. Dr. J.D. Ragland with Randall County Agri-Life says the immediate need is for Hay and Fencing. 300 round bales of hay are needed and they have several downstate farmers ready to donate but they can’t absorb the $5.00 plus Diesel fuel cost to transport the hay to Randall County. Producers need 154 miles of barbed wire fencing in the county. The cost of that fencing at the current time is $25,000 per mile for a total of almost four million dollars. Dr. Ragland says that you can make a tax deductible monetary donation to help defray the costs at any Happy State Bank location in the area.
