New Para-Transit Buses Making Their Way To Amarillo

The elderly and disabled will be using brand new para-transit buses starting next May.

The current fleet of para-transit vehicles are over a decade old and the City’s Transit director says they’re beginning to show their age.

Until recently the funds became available for the purchase.

The Vice Chair of the Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities, Ali Ramos, insists the new buses are absolutely necessary for the disabled community

The Vice Chair says most customers rely on the service for essential transportation and without the current fleet working properly or being accessible, there are not too many options..

In the past, the buses made 52-thousand trips, mostly to doctors offices and to the grocery store.

Currently there are 11 buses, 10 of them will be replaced . They can carry up to 29 passengers and are also part of a larger plan to re-brand the program which includes giving it a new name.
