New Budget and Tax Rate Proposed During Amarillo City Council Meeting

While it was short this week, a lot was discussed during Amarillo’s City Council meeting Tuesday afternoon.

Throughout the meeting, the main discussion dealt with a new budget and tax rate for the city, looking to be put into place before the new fiscal year next month.

Assistant City Manager and Chief Financial Officer Laura Storrs spoke about the proposed rate, and what some of the immediate plans are for the city.

With talks of the Civic Center project on the minds of residents, Storrs also spoke on what this new budget and tax rate means regarding those plans.

While the council agreed by a 5-0 vote, there will be a second reading of this plan on Thursday, September 8th at 1 pm inside City Hall. The council will vote on this plan again for the fiscal year, with any public thoughts and comments also welcomed.
