National Zookeeper Week: Meet Three Local Animal Lovers
National Zookeeper Week is in ‘Full Swing’ at the Amarillo Zoo.
The City of Amarillo recognizes three recent employees who, in little more than a month, have already made their mark.
Noah Mitchell credits the late Steve Irwin – better known as The Crocodile Hunter – for influencing him and his love for animals. Kenzie Morris started as a zoo volunteer while still in high school. For Sarah Stuckey, the zoo was a natural fit for her and her love of animals
While the three have different answers for things they love about the Amarillo Zoo, when it comes to the animal that most intimidates them, Mitchell, Morris and Stuckey agree, it’s Bagheera the black jaguar.
“When you try to lock his gate, Bagheera will put his paws up on the gate and try to sniff you,” Stuckey said. “It is cute, but sometimes scary.”
National Zookeeper Week runs through July 27.
