More Americans Filing For Unemployment Claims

More Americans are filing for first-time unemployment claims. According to the Labor Department, 965-thousand Americans filed for first-time benefits last week.

That’s up 181-thousand from the previous week’s revised level. It was revised down about three-thousand claims to 784-thousand. Analysts forecast jobless claims to rise to 800-thousand.

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending January 2nd were in Louisiana, Kansas, Texas, Georgia and Washington.

The largest decreases were in Illinois, California, Maryland and Florida.
