Sod Poodles Comeback Over  Rockhounds To Win 13-8 And Complete Sweep

AMARILLO, Texas – The Amarillo Sod Poodles completed an eight-run, 16-hit comeback in the rain-delayed series finale yesterday against the Midland RockHounds in front of 6,840 fans at HODGETOWN to mark their first-ever series sweep and fifth straight win. The 13-8 comeback marked Amarillo’s highest deficit overcome in 2019. After a scheduled off-day today, the Amarillo Sod Poodles head to Frisco to begin a three-game series with the first-place RoughRiders. Following that series, the Sod Poodles will head to Midland for three more games before returning back to HODGETOWN on Monday, June 3.

Rangers’ Bullpen Blows Lead In Loss To Angels

(Anaheim, CA) — Jeffrey Springs faced four batters, retired none and all scored in a six-run Angels’ seventh inning as the Rangers fell 7-6 in Anaheim. Shin-Soo Choo homered, doubled and drove in a pair of Texas runs. Hunter Pence hit a solo shot in defeat. The Rangers dropped the last two games of the weekend series.

Rangers Will Start Lynn Tonight

(Seattle, TX) — Lance Lynn will be on the mound tonight for the Rangers to open a three-game series in Seattle. Left-hander Tommy Milone is schedule to throw the first pitch the Mariners. Our pregame coverage begins this evening at 8:30 on 710AM and 97.5FM KGNC.

Astros, Verlander Lose To Red Sox

(Houston, TX) — Justin Verlander absorbed the loss as the Astros fell 4-1 to the Red Sox in Houston. Verlander allowed three runs on six hits, struck and six and walked none in seven innings. Carlos Correa had a RBI-single in the first for the Houston run. The Astros are 4-and-4 in their last eight.

Springer, Diaz Injured In Weekend Games

(Houston, TX) — Astros All-Star outfielder George Springer went on the injured list Saturday with a Grade Two left hamstring strain. While there is no timetable for his return, he is expected to be out a few weeks. Houston utility player Aledmys Diaz will probably join him today on the injury list. He suffered a hamstring injury yesterday and left in the first inning in a 4-1 loss to the Red Sox. He had started at second base. Houston is hopeful All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve, who is also out with a hamstring injury, will return this week. He began a rehab assignment yesterday with Triple-A Round Rock.

Na Cruises To Win At Colonial

(Fort Worth, TX) — Kevin Na shot a four-under 66 to win the Charles Schwab Challenge by four strokes at the Colonial in Fort Worth. Na won by four strokes over Tony Finau for his third PGA tour victory. Dallasite Jordan Spieth faded with a two-over 72 to finish eight shots back. Ryan Palmer finished at 6-under in a tie for 6th place.

Simon Pagenaud Wins Indianapolis 500

(Indianapolis, IN) — Simon Pagenaud  is the winner of the 103rd Indy 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It’s his first career Indy 500 victory and the 18th for Team Penske, extending its all-time record. Alexander Rossi finished second, while Takuma Sato, Josef Newgarden and Will Power rounded out the top-five.

Martin Truex Junior Wins NASCAR Coca-Cola 600

(Concord, NC) — Martin Truex Junior is adding another win to his NASCAR cup series total. Truex Junior survived a late restart and the marathon that is the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The No. 19 was able to fend off defending cup champion Joey Logano on the final few laps. Kyle Busch finished in third while Chase Elliott took fourth and Ricky Stenhouse rounded out the top five. Truex Junior is now tied with Busch and Brad Keselowski for most wins on the season.

NBA Finals Matchup Set

(Undated) — The 2019 NBA Finals are set after Toronto won the Eastern Conference finals over the weekend. The Raptors will host the Golden State Warriors in Game One on Thursday. Toronto is chasing the first championship in franchise history, while the Warriors are looking to three-peat after winning the past two NBA Finals.

Cowboys Back On Field Tomorrow

(Frisco, TX) — After a four-day Memorial Day weekend break, the Cowboys will be back on the field tomorrow. It will be the fourth OTA session for Dallas. The Cowboys will wrap up 10 volunteer OTA sessions on June 6th. Dallas will begin a three-day mandatory minicamp on June 11th.

(Houston, TX) — The Texans will be back on the field tomorrow after a four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend break. They will hold three volunteer OTA sessions this week and four next week. Houston will begin a three-day mandatory minicamp on June 11th.

College Baseball Tournaments

(Undated) — On the diamond, while Baylor, Dallas Baptist and Texas A&M failed to win their conference baseball tournaments all three are expected to get a NCAA Tournament at-large bid today when the 64-team field is announced. Texas Tech is a shoo-in after winning the regular season Big 12 title and Lubbock will host a regional. TCU is on the bubble after falling 7-6 in 10 innings to Oklahoma State yesterday in the Big 12 tourney in Oklahoma City. The Frogs are 32-and-26 with an 11-and-13 conference record.

Hall Of Fame QB Bart Starr Dies

(Birmingham, AL) — Green Bay Packers legend and NFL Hall of Famer Bart Starr is dead at the age of 85. Starr’s family issued a statement announcing his passing this morning in Birmingham, Alabama. Starr won five NFL championships with the Green Bay Packers, including the first two Super Bowls in league history.

Watt, Ohai Announce Engagement

(Houston, TX) — Texans Pro-Bowl defensive end J.J. Watt and Kealie Ohai, who is the captain of the Houston Dash in the National Women’s Soccer League, announced their engagement. The couple has been dating for three years. She is the sister-in-law of former Texans linebacker Brian Cushing, who introduced the two.

Morning News Sports Writer Gerry Fraley Dies

(Dallas, TX) — Dallas Morning News sports writer Gerry Fraley died Saturday after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 64. Fraley joined the Dallas paper to cover the Rangers primarily, but also was assigned to football, basketball and NASCAR stories. He had also covered the Phillies, Braves and Cardinals before the Rangers.
