Monday Sports Update – Rangers Split Series With Tigers

(Detroit, MI) — Austin Bibens-Dirkx and three-relievers combined on a four-hitter as the Rangers shutout the Tigers 3-0 in Detroit. Bibens-Dirkx pitched into the sixth and gave up three hits to earn the win and Keone Kela locked down his 22nd save. Shin-Soo Choo extended his on-base streak to 47-games which is a new club record. Jurickson Profar homered and Ronald Guzman had three hits and an RBI for Texas as it salvaged a split of the four-game series. The Rangers open a three game series against the Red Sox in Boston. Giants Ship Jackson And Gearrin To Rangers

(Arlington, TX) — The Rangers are adding some veteran depth as the All-Star break approaches. Texas acquired outfielder Austin Jackson, right-hander Cory Gearrin, and minor league pitcher Jason Bahr in a trade with the Giants. San Francisco will receive a player to be named later or cash considerations. In a related move, Texas put pitchers Matt Bush and Tony Barnette on the 60-day disabled list.

Choo Named All-Star

(Arlington, TX) — Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is representing the Texas Rangers in the MLB All-Star Game. Choo earned his first All-Star nod at the age of 35. He’s batting .294 for Texas this season with 17 home runs and 42 RBI.

Astros Edge White Sox, Host A’s Today

(Houston, TX) — Dallas Keuchel pitched seven strong innings as the Astros edged the White Sox 2-1 in Houston. Jose Altuve homered and Marwin Gonzalez plated the go-ahead run in the seventh. Hector Rondon notched the save in Houston’s sixth win in a row. Gerrit Cole takes the mound as the Astros host the A’s tonight.

MLB All-Star Rosters Announced

(Washington, DC) — The rosters for the 89th annual MLB All-Star Game in Washington D.C. are out. The Astros, Red Sox and Indians tied for the lead with five All-Stars each, while the Yankees and Braves had four apiece. The Midsummer Classic is next Tuesday, July 17th in D.C.

Mavericks Defeat Bucks In Vegas

(Dallas, TX) — Jonathan Motley put up 20 points as the Mavericks beat the Bucks 81-78 in NBA Summer League action last night in Las Vegas. Dorian Finney-Smith added 14 points for Dallas. First-round pick Luka Doncic has not played yet this summer and likely won’t at all. The Mavs face the Warriors today.

Rockets Beat Warriors In Summer League

(Las Vegas, NV) — R.J. Hunter put up 24 points as the Rockets beat the Warriors 87-81 in NBA Summer League action from Las Vegas. Second-round pick De’Anthony Melton scored 17 points in the win. The Rockets face the Clippers tonight.

Kyle Anderson Going To Grizzlies

(San Antonio, TX) — It looks like Kyle Anderson will be making the move from the San Antonio Spurs to the Memphis Grizzlies. ESPN says the 24-year-old restricted free agent signed an offer sheet from the Grizzlies on Friday. The offer was for a four-year deal worth more than 37-million-dollars. The Spurs had two days to match the deal, but on Sunday they declined to do so.

Erik Jones Wins Dramatic Race At Daytona

(Daytona Beach, FL) — Erik Jones is the champion of the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona. Jones outdueled Martin Truex Junior in two overtimes to pick up his first career Monster Energy Series win. Jones passed Truex on the final lap and held on to win by .125-seconds. AJ Allmendinger, Kasey Kahne, and Chris Buescher rounded out the top-five.

Hooks Win In Arkansas After Game Delayed By Bees

(Springdale, AR) — The Corpus Christi Hooks are buzzing after a win over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Yesterday’s game in Springdale, Arkansas was delayed for well over an hour after a large beehive was discovered in the visiting team’s dugout. After the pests were removed, the Hooks went on to win 9-2.
