Mayor Addresses Letter To City Churches Concerning Play

Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson is catching some flack over comments she made concerning an event coming to the Amarillo Civic Center.

In a letter addressed to several city churches, she explained how events are booked through the city. She says the city cannot refuse to lease a public facility or a group based on the content of the event.

She then goes on to say she is praying for the community to engage with people who may not know Jesus.

Several LGBTQ groups in Amarillo say they’re upset because of the way the issue was addressed.

Members of the LGBTQ-plus community Insist that coming out to see the event “A Drag Queen Christmas” could be educational for the Amarillo community and a great way to be educated outside of Amarillo
