Man Facing Federal Drug Charges After DPS Traffic Stop

A man is behind bars facing federal drug charges after a traffic stop.

Court documents say a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was patrolling near Vega around 11:00 p.m. on April 19 when he spotted a car with a burned out license plate light.

The trooper pulled the car over and asked for consent to search the vehicle.

The driver agreed to the search, then admitted to transporting a backpack from California to Tennessee for $2,000.

A search of the backpack revealed 10.8 pounds of a substance later confirmed to be methamphetamine.

A formal criminal complaint was filed against the driver in federal court on Monday and He now faces charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
