Loop 335 Crash Claims A Life

A crash involving a semi and a pickup Friday left one person dead.
According to information provided by the DPS, the crash occurred around 4:35 p.m. on Loop 335 just east of Amarillo and involved a 2016 Volvo semi rig, and a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500.
The Dodge Ram was driven by 83-year-old Antonio Avila-Mendoza of Amarillo. He struck the back of the semi, which was stopped, signaling for a left turn into a caliche pit.
Avila-Mendoza was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, but succumbed to the trauma suffered in the crash.
The driver of the semi, Benito Sanchez, 63, also from Amarillo, refused treatment and transport by EMS.
