Local Animal Shelters See Increase In Dogs Picked Up Over Weekend

There’s a lot of missing pets following the Fourth of July Holiday.

Veterinary officials in Amarillo say for the most part the missing animals are dogs, who may have been frightened by loud fireworks

Several shelters, like the Humane Society and the ASPCA say they have seen many messages about lost pets on social media.

They’re advising all pet owners to get their animals micro-chipped to make it easier find it, if it gets lost.

They also say if you find a dog or you know it’s out there and lost and scared put it temporarily in a safe secure place and call the animal shelter in your area.
