Law Enforcment Target Drunk Drivers Over Holiday Weekend

Law enforcement will be hitting the streets hard ahead of New Year’s Eve weekend to stop drunk driving.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says they expect more people on the roads as they celebrate.

Amarillo Police Department Sgt. Carla Burr said they are focusing on preventing DWI-related crashes and she added that extra officers will be on patrol Friday night and Saturday night specifically hired for DWI patrol and if you are intoxicated you will be going to jail.

Sgt. Burr also reminded drivers that a DWI in Texas can cost between $10,000 and $15,000 including fines, jail time, and lawyer’s fees.
