A skunk in Wheeler County has tested positive for rabies.

A homeowner was letting her dog out a back door and when it ran back inside she stepped outside to see what happened causing her to be bitten on the foot.

After the skunk was trapped and euthanized it was sent off to be tested.

This is the first case of rabies in the county and the 49th in the Panhandle.
