Hereford Car-Train Crash

A train-car accident claimed the life of a 33-year-old Gerzain Alonso Valenzuela-Lerma, early Sunday morning in Hereford.

The crash happened at 3:20 a.m.on FM 2943, just off of South U.S.60.

Department of Public Safety officials Lerma’s Malibu was attempting to cross a multiple railroad track grade crossing, at a protected crossing.

The car stopped on the northernmost tracks when the BNSF train going west saw the vehicle apply its brakes, but did not do it in time to avoid the collision, and knocked the car off the tracks and into a ditch.
