Heated Exchange Between Carter, Scherlen During City Council Meeting
During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, things grew a little intense as councilman Tom Scherlen made it clear he had no interest in voting for or approving the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation budget for the new fiscal year until the inquiry into the organization’s financial practices is complete.
Scherlen and AEDC President Kevin Carter got into a heated exchange when Scherlen accused Carter of making faces while the councilman was laying out his thoughts concerning the budget.
City Auditor Uneil Gerber told the council he is two-thirds complete with his audit of the past three years of expense and vouchers of the AEDC, focusing only on those exceeding $25,000 per council directive. Gerber said he will have his findings complete and to the council by Friday, Oct. 4.
This, of course, in response to the wire transfer of $750,000 from the AEDC to The RANGE in Jan. 2023.
