Friday Sports Update – Rangers Hold Down Tigers

(Detroit, MI) — The Rangers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 7-5 win over the Tigers in Detroit. Joey Gallo and Ronald Guzman hit two-run homers to lead the Texas’ attack. Jurickson Profar had two hits and scored twice as the Rangers ended a three-game slide. Yovani Gallardo got the win and Keone Kela his 21st save.

Astros Rally Past White Sox

(Houston, TX) — Yuli Gurriel capped off a two-run rally with a walk-off single as the Astros edged the White Sox 4-3 in Houston. George Springer singled home the tying run earlier in the ninth and Jose Altuve added a two-run homer for the ‘Stros. Justin Verlander struck out 10 over seven frames of two-run ball and Joe Smith earned the win. The Astros have won three-straight.

Mavs Begin Summer League Tonight

(London) — The men’s singles tournament at Wimbledon saw a major upset in the second round. Third-seeded Marin Cilic [[ CHILL-itch ]] lost in five sets to unseeded Guido Pella, blowing a two-set lead. Top seed Roger Federer faces Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round today. Rousey Inducted Into UFC HoF

(Las Vegas, NV) — Ronda Rousey is making history. The 31-year-old became the first woman to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on Thursday. Rousey was the faction’s first female champion, defending the bantamweight title six times between 2012 and 2015. She is currently wrestling with the WWE.

New Braunfels Native Makes National Women’s Baseball Team Again

(New Braunfels, TX) — A 2012 graduate of Canyon High School in New Braunfels is on the USA Baseball women’s national team for the third time. Brittany Gomez set records with her softball career at Iowa State, and she’s one of only two Texans on the 20-member national team. The United States is gearing up for the World Baseball Softball Confederation Women’s Baseball World Cup. The competition gets underway on August 22nd in Viera, Florida.
