Friday Sports Update – Rangers Blank Mariners

(Seattle, WA) — Ariel Jurado and three relievers combined on a three-hitter as the Rangers shut out the Mariners 2-0 in Seattle. Jose Leclerc claimed his 12th save. Texas scored both of their runs in the seventh. Hanser Alberto had three of the Rangers’ seven hits. Texas snapped a three-game skid. Astros, Orioles Postponed By Rain

(Baltimore, MD) — Thursday’s game between the Astros and Orioles is postponed due to rain in Baltimore. The two sides will play a doubleheader on tomorrow in Baltimore to make it up. The Astros are 100-and-58 on the season and have already locked up the AL West title. Gerrit Cole takes the mound tonight. The Orioles enter with the worst record in the MLB.

Cowboys Return Home Against Lions

Cowboys Injury Updates

(Frisco, TX) — Defensive tackle Maliek Collins, center Travis Frederick and linebacker Sean Lee missed practice with injuries as the Cowboys prepare for a Sunday home game with the Lions. Wide receiver Cole Beasley and defensive tackle Antwaun Woods were limited participants. Beasley has an ankle injury and Woods a groin issue.

Texans Visit Colts

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Texans get another crack at their first win on Sunday as they visit the Colts. Houston enters the matchup at 0-and-3, while Indianapolis sits at 1-and-2. The Texans have two wins in Indianapolis in franchise history. Four receivers were limited at practice for the second straight day, including Will Fuller and DeAndre Hopkins.

Rams Beat Vikings In Shootout

(Los Angeles, CA) — Thursday Night Football put on a show as Jared Goff threw for 465 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Rams past the Vikings 38-31 at The Coliseum. Kirk Cousins went toe-to-toe with Goff, piling up 422 yards through the air and three scores in defeat. The Rams are 4-and-0 for the first time since 2001 in St. Louis. Minnesota fell to 1-2-and-1.

Ryder Cup Underway

(Paris, France) — Tiger Woods is hoping Sunday’s win carries over into the Ryder Cup. He and Team USA opened the tournament against Europe this morning in Paris, France. Woods is paired with Patrick Reed on day one as they go up against Italy’s Franceso Molinari and England’s Tommy Fleetwood. Woods made the Ryder Cup team for the first time in six years.

Stars Will Play Blues Tonight

(St. Louis, MO) — The Stars continue their NHL preseason tonight with a game against the Blues in St. Louis. Dallas is coming off a 3-1 victory over the Avalanche on Wednesday in Denver. The Stars are 4-0-and-1. They will return Sunday to American Airlines Center, hosting Colorado in their final preseason game. The Stars will open the regular season next Thursday at home against Arizona.

Mavericks Forward Barnes Injured

(Dallas, TX) — Mavericks forward Harrison Barnes suffered a right hamstring injury in practice. He will miss the Dallas preseason opener tomorrow against the Beijing Ducks of the Chinese Basketball Association at American Airlines Center. Barnes will also be held out of games on October 5th and 8th against Philadelphia in China. The Mavs will reevaluate Barnes’ injury in seven-to-10 days. He averaged 18.9 points last season, starting 77 games.

Rockets Continue Training Camp

(Lake Charles, LA) — The Rockets continue training camp today in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The preseason tips off on Monday in Birmingham, Alabama versus the Memphis Grizzlies. In other team news, multiple reports state the Rockets are still interested in acquiring Jimmy Butler from Minnesota.

Spurs Exercise Options On Three Players

(San Antonio, TX) — The San Antonio Spurs are exercising their options on three players. The team announced Thursday that they’ve exercised their fourth-year team options on guard Dejounte Murray and center Jakob Poeltl for the 2019-20 season. The Spurs have also exercised their third-year team option on guard Derrick White for the 2019-20 season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder Is Dedicating An Outdoor Basketball Court

(Wewoka, OK) — The Oklahoma City Thunder is dedicating a new court in Wewoka. On Saturday, the Thunder, through a partnership with the Thunder Cares Foundation, will dedicate a new outdoor court at St. Crispin’s Conference Center and Camp. The Thunder Vice President of Community Relations, Christine Berney, says they couldn’t be happier to dedicate the court for those who visit St. Crispin’s. Berney says she hopes it will encourage children to stay active and make healthy choices on and off the court.

First African-American To Get Football Scholarship To UT Dies

(Undated) — The first African-American to get a football scholarship to University of Texas is dead. UT announced the death of Julius Whittier today saying he passed away earlier this week. Whittier joined the Longhorns in 1969 and won three Southwest Conference championships in the 70s. He ended up getting a law degree at UT and spent most of his career as a prosecutor in Dallas County. Whittier is a member of the Longhorn Hall of Honor.
