Friday Sports Update – Cowboys Open Rookie Minicamp Today

(Frisco, TX) — The Cowboys open their three-day rookie today at the Star in Frisco. All nine draft picks along with 18 undrafted free agent players will be present and multiple tryout players and eligible non-rookies. At least 40 players in total are expected to be present. The camp will run through Sunday.

(Frisco, TX) — Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving is no longer under police investigation. Frisco police said today they were ending the domestic violence probe. Irving’s longtime girlfriend claimed on social media and to police last month he’d hit her, while also saying she had video. She later released a statement saying the comments were made in anger and Irving had never harmed her. The NFL is looking into the situation.

Cowboys’ Collins Breaks Foot

(Frisco, TX) — Cowboys defensive tackle Maliek Collins will need surgery after breaking his left foot in practice on Thursday. Collins dealt with a sprained left foot last season and underwent surgery on the same foot in January. He started all 16 games for Dallas last season and finished with two-and-a-half sacks.

Rangers Visit Astros

(Houston, TX) — The Rangers open a nine-game road trip tonight, starting with a three-game series in Houston versus the Astros. Cole Hamels gets the start for Texas, while the Astros counter with Justin Verlander. The Rangers are 15-and-24 on the season and will also visit the Mariners and White Sox during the road trip. Jets Rout Predators, Advance To Western Conference Final

NBA Playoffs Resume Sunday

Meanwhile, the Rockets host the Warriors in Game One of the West finals on Monday. Cleveland and Golden State have met in each of the last three NBA Finals, with the Warriors winning twice.

Mickelson, Woods Struggle In Opening Round Of The Players Championship

(Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) — Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods are off to tough starts in The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. Mickelson stumbled to a seven-over 79 in Thursday’s opening round, while Woods shot an even-par 72. There is a six-way tie for first place at six-under. Defending champion Si Woo Kim is among a group just a shot back at minus-five. Ryan Palmer shot 2-over and is tied for 95th.
