Friday Sports Update – Cowboys Lackluster Against Texans

(Houston, TX) — The Cowboys ended the preseason 0-and-4 with a 14-6 loss to the Texans in Houston. Backup quarterback Cooper Rush threw two interceptions. Brett Maher kicked field goals of 57 and 41 yards for the Cowboys points. Few Dallas starters saw the field. The Cowboys kick off the regular season September 9th at the Carolina Panthers.

Cowboys Acquire Lineman From Chiefs

(Kansas City, MO) — The Cowboys have obtained offensive guard Parker Ehinger from the Chiefs in a trade. Dallas sent undrafted rookie cornerback Charvarius Ward to Kansas City. Ehinger was a Chiefs’ 2016 fourth-round pick out of Cincinnati and has started five games, four of them last year.

Astros Fall To Angels

(Houston, TX) — Andrew Heaney fired six shutout innings as the Angels topped the Astros 5-2 in Houston. Tyler White homered for the third time in four games to provide the offense for Houston. Justin Verlander struck out 11, but gave up three runs to take the loss. The Astros are two-and-a-half games up on the A’s for the division lead. Framber Valdez gets the start in the second of a four-game series.

Rangers Open Series Tonight Against Twins

(Arlington, TX) — Drew Hutchinson will be the Texas pitching probable tonight at Globe Life Park in the series opener against the Twins. The Rangers will attempt to snap a four-game slide after having yesterday off. Stephen Gonsalves will start for Minnesota. Our pregame begins this evening at 6:30 on 710AM and 97.5FM KGNC.

Rua Shutdown From Rehab Assignment

(Arlington, TX) — Rangers outfielder Ryan Rua has been shutdown from his minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco. He played three games before experiencing additional back tightness. Rua was the opening day starter in left field and hit .194 in 56 games. He went on the disabled list on July 28th.

Serena Squares Off With Venus Tonight At U.S. Open

(Flushing Meadows, NY) — Sisters Serena and Venus Williams will square off in a third-round match tonight at the U.S. Open. The 17th-seeded Serena has yet to drop a set in the first two rounds, while 16th-seeded Venus has lost just one in her first two matches. The 36-year-old Serena holds a 17-to-12 edge on her 38-year-old sister in head-to-head matches.

PGA Tour Stops In Boston

(Norton, MA) — The PGA Tour stops in Beantown this holiday weekend. First round play tees off this morning in the Dell Technologies Championship at TPC Boston in Norton. The tourney runs through Monday. Tiger Woods is part of this year’s field, as is defending champion Justin Thomas.

Aggies Stomp Northwestern State

(College Station, TX) — The Jimbo Fisher era is off to a fast start as Texas A&M stomped Northwestern State 59-7. Traveon Williams racked up 240 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries to lead the Aggies. Kellen Mond passed for two scores in the win. The Aggies host second-ranked Clemson next Saturday.
