Former Friona Police Officer Given 20 Years for Sexual Assault

A former Friona police officer was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for the sexual assault of two teenagers.

31-year-old Delia Ruiz pleaded guilty to enticement of a minor in January and was sentenced by a U.S. District Judge on June 1st.

In her plea papers Ruiz says the sexual assault began in the fall of 2020 with the first victim, and in the spring of 2021 with the second.

She reportedly sent flirtatious messages and arranged secret meetings on multiple occasions.

Ruiz also admitted to sending sexually explicit photos and videos of herself to the second victim, warning him not to tell anyone because she could get into trouble.

She was arrested in October of 2021 and subsequently fired by the Friona Police Department.
