Family Support Services Sees Increase In Domestic Violence Calls Due To Pandemic

With October being Domestic Violence month, Amarillo’s Family Support Services is seeing an increase in domestic violence calls in the past several months.

Kathy Tortoreo, crisis services director for the organization says the uptick is due to many things since the beginning of the pandemic, and one of those issues is because people are more isolated and at home more than usual.

In Amarillo and Canyon, you can find purple silhouettes representing a victim of domestic violence who has paid the ultimate price when it came to being in a relationship an abusive partner.

Each silhouette has a plaque with it, telling the brief story of a victim.

Some may have dealt with domestic violence when they were younger, or perhaps when they were older in their adult years.
