Fairfax School To Be Named After NASA Mathematician

A middle school in Fairfax, Virginia, is being named after NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson.

Fairfax City Public Schools decided on the name change for the Lanier Middle School after months of debate and conversation.

It’ll take effect at the start of the 2021-2022 school year.

Johnson worked for NASA as a mathematician whose calculations of orbital mechanics were deemed critical to the success of the first and subsequent U.S. crewed spaceflights.
