Eye On Wellness: Diabetes and Diet

In the past few weeks, we’ve talked about Diabetes and diet.

This week we’ll talk about assembling a care team for your personalized diabetes care.

First You’ll need an endocrinologist, also called a diabetes specialist.  They go over your bloodwork, treatment options and help you decide on a course of action. It’ll also help if you go to your primary care doctor and don’t forget your insurance provider.

A certified diabetes care and education specialist. Especially important for diabetes self management.  Your endocrinologist can help you and also check your primary care provider or you can go online by searching the certification Board For Diabetes Care and education provider.

Lets not forget a dietician. A registered dietician is a must for all things food and nutrition related. If you have a local diabetes clinic near you, that’s a good place to start to find one. You can also find a registered nurse who is proficient in treating diabetes.

Don’t forget to look into a mental health professional. Using one of them can help you set realistic goals rather than idealistic ones.

A good pharmacist should be in your arsenal.

And a fitness professional.is a must. An exercise physiologist can work with you on setting realistic goals and set a personalized fitness plan.
