ESSER School Funds

A breakdown of federal funding to Amarillo and Canyon school shows both districts have received three phases of Elementary and Secondary School Relief Funds or ESSER.

The Amarillo ISD got over 105 million dollars in the ESSER funds and has two-thirds of that amount remaining, while Canyon has 6 point five million dollars left in its Esser Funds.

Amarillo money has been spent on attendance issues, retention stipends , and 40 percent budgeted for for tutoring

Canyon’s money has been spent or budgeted for things like whiteboards, and air quality. while a majority is addressing learning loss during the pandemic.

Both School systems also saw an improvement in scores, with Amarillo getting an 89 on its accountability score for the year.

Schhol districts have until September 2024 to use the funding or it will expire.
