A deadly auto crash in Hartley County left three dead and two people injured.

DPS reports say that at 11:30 a.m., traffic was at a standstill on South U.S. 54 and a semi truck going south did not slow down or stop for the traffic.

The driver of the truck 57-year -old Donald Diebel, Jr hit the rear of a 2020 International semi, which in turn smacked into the back of a Ford pick-up driven by Marvin Wirtjes with passenger 79-year-old Shirley Wirtjes.

The pick-up then hit the rear of another semi, a 2019 Peterbilt and then hit the back of a Jeep sending the jeep into the back of a 2023 Mack semi.

Diebel,Jr,and both Wirtjes were pronounced dead at the scene, and the drivers and passengers for the 2020 International and the jeep were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while the drivers of the Peterbilt and the Mack truck were not injured.

The crash is still under investigation by DPS.
