Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban spoke with Julius Erving on a Podcast Tuesday and said that he has told his players that it is OK for them to “Tank” games. Tanking is the practice of losing games on purpose in order to possibly get a better draft choice at the end of the season or for other reasons. The NBA has fined Mark Cuban $660,000 for his comments. If you had season tickets to Mavericks games, would you want a refund if you knew that they were going to lose the game  intentionally. What does his comments tell young athletes, if you are out of the playoffs it is alright to just give up and don’t try to win? How is this any different from “Shoeless” Joe Jackson and the Chicago Black Sox Scandal? They both made sure that they lost the game.
