Dalhart Football Player Passes Away After Injury

Dalhart high school student Yahir Cancino died after sustaining a serious head injury during a football game.

Yahir was injured on Sept 1st with less than seven minutes left in the 4th quarter during the game between the Sundown Roughnecks and the Dalhart Golden Wolves, according to a press release.

Officials stated he lost consciousness during the game. When medical trainers and professionals could not revive him, he was airlifted to UMC and placed in the pediatric ICU.

On Sept 3rd, Yahir’s mother posted on Facebook stating he had succumbed to his injuries.

On Friday night, the Golden Wolves held a prayer vigil at Dalhart Memorial Stadium.
