Contractor Failure Forces NWTHS To Secure New Source

In a memo to the Northwest Texas Healthcare System staff dated November 23, CEO Jason Barrett addressed the recent closing of two Freestanding Emergency Departments, referred to as FED’s that have been in the news in recent days.

Barrett said the closures are temporary, noting what NWTHS is doing to remedy the situation.

The problem, according to the memo, is NES Health, the contractor that provides and pays the healthcare professionals that staff the Emergency Departments – including the FED’s – provided notice recently it would not be able to pay those under its employ.

Barrett says this placed NES in a breach of their agreement. As such, NWTHS has worked to secure a new physician provider, which is in the process of recruiting those impacted by the NES situation.

Once this is settled, Barrett says the closed FED’s will re-open.
