Community Development Department Drive-Thru Furniture Drive Proves Major Success

The City of Amarillo’s Community Development Department is announcing the drive-thru furniture drive that was held last week was a major success.

The drive-thru furniture drive donations brought in 15 chairs, 10 dressers, five couches and numerous lamps, pots, pans, dishes and microwaves.

The Department moved 60 individuals from the Salvation Army to alternative housing, such as hotels and rental properties, to help provide adequate social distancing space at the Salvation Army.

Community Development Director Juliana Kitten said “The response from the public was fantastic, and we are most appreciative of Amarillo’s willingness to help those in need during these difficult times.”

Volunteers from numerous city departments also participated, with as many as 15 city employees from five different departments.
