COA Inspecting Water Lines

The City of Amarillo has announced it is conducting as assessment of all water service lines in the city’s water system. The action is in compliance with new federal regulations to reduce the risk of exposure to lead sources on our drinking water.
All city water lines are in the process of that inspection. The initial inventory of water lines was released online October 16. Notifications will be mailed to home by Friday.
Those notifications will include information placing water lines in one of three categories:
- Unknown
- Galvanized
- Lead
Water lines that existed prior to the Lead Ban of January 1, 1989, have yet to be examined onsite and will be placed in the Unknown category. Other Unknown water lines are to be evaluated by October 2027.
