City of Amarillo Gearing Up To Start Recount Process For Mayor Vote

The City of Amarillo gave an update on the Recount Process submitted by mayoral candidate Claudette smith.

Unofficial election results showed that Mayor Nelson won with 54% of the vote with Smith only tagging the 29%.

City Manager Jerad Miller said in a press conference Thursday that The City would start the recount process early next week and have 7 days to finalize the count.

There will be 36 counters present, 18 from Potter County and 18 from Randall County along with a Secretary of State Inspector to assist with the process.

The Counting will be down at the Amarillo Civic Center.

Miller said that Candidates can be present for the recount process and can assign 1 person to witness each recount table.

The deposit for the recount of $4500 has been made for the recount to take place which is paid for by the candidate.

There needs to be 816 new votes found to trigger a runoff for the top 2 candidates.
