City Leaders Respond To TX Gov Greg Abbott’s Executive Order

The City of Amarillo and Canyon leadership teams along with leaders from the Panhandle Restaurant Association and the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce came together to discuss the impact COVID-19 will have on area businesses.

After an executive order from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, to close restaurants, bars, and gyms to contain the spread of the coronavirus across the state.

Local officials say how we respond as a community to this situation will determine how quickly we recover from it, and we are bound by the restrictions set by the Governor.

Effective immediately and until further notice, all local businesses should follow these mandates from the State of Texas:

  1. Every person in Texas shall avoid social gatherings of 10 or more people
  2. Restaurants may not offer dine-in options. Restaurants are encouraged to offer options such as drive-through, carry out or delivery.
  3. Gyms are to be closed.

The Amarillo Chamber of Commerce is compiling a list of restaurants that are offering alternative service options.

That list will be disseminated widely and frequently throughout the Amarillo and Canyon areas.

Please contact the Chamber of Commerce to add your business to that list.

City Leaders say this is a temporary situation, and we will see the end of it. West-Texans are strong and resilient; we’ve proven that time and again. In true Texas style, we would ask that each of you take a moment to consider how to best help your neighbor as we join together to limit the effects of the Coronavirus on our community.

This goes into effect Friday, March 20th at Midnight.
