City Council Approves Renovations for Thompson Memorial Park

One of Amarillo’s oldest parks will be getting a makeover very soon.

During Tuesday’s City Council Meeting, the council agreed by a unanimous vote to proceed with renovations for Thompson Memorial Park, located at 2401 Dumas Dr.

Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, moving with renovations for Thompson Park will be a continuation of beautification for all public parks, as this will be the eleventh park to be repaired just within this fiscal year.

Capital Improvements Project Manager Eric Ellersick spoke about the importance of preserving our parks and when renovations will be complete.

Along with fixing Thompson, John Stiff, East, and West Hills parks have approved funding for new playgrounds to be built. Those repairs, however, will start to take shape during the next fiscal year.
