Citizen Concern Leads To Needed Traffic Improvement Near AHS

The City of Amarillo Public Works Department will implement traffic safety improvements at the Bell and Amarillo High School crossing starting Thursday, August 15. These changes come in response to community concerns and a recent traffic study conducted along Bell Street and at the Sandie Drive intersection.

Key changes will include installation of push-button activated yellow flashing overhead sign at Bell and Sandie and implementation of a reduced speed zone, lowering the speed limit from 45 mph to 30 mph during peak school hours.

The reduced speed limit will be in effect during the following times:

  • Morning: 7:30 AM – 8:15 AM
  • Lunch: 11:30 AM – 1:45 PM
  • After School: 3:45 PM – 4:30 PM

The new traffic pattern will be fully implemented Thursday, August 15.
