Catalytic Converter Thefts

Your car could be a target for catalytic converter theft.

Amarillo Police have seen a growing increase of the thefts since 1998 when only 98 were reported stolen, to this year with so far a total of 225.

APD want car owners to be aware of the converter thefts and protect themselves by leaving outside lights on at night, buying a security camera, keeping their car parked close to your house, or either paint or mark them so they can be easily identified by the owner.

Police say more than likely the stolen converters are being taken to larger cities so the thieves can avoid being caught.

APD says if you see someone suspicious hanging around your cars, report it to them by calling 911
