BHM Mae Jemison

KGNC Celebrates Black History Month.

Mae Jemison (1956 to Present) is an engineer and former NASA Astronaut.  She became the first African-American woman astronaut to travel into space on the Endeavor shuttle in 1992.

As a former Physician and general practitioner, she had previously served in the Peace Corps in 1983, and put into place guidelines for health and safety issues.

Jemison was also a researcher for a variety of vaccines with the Centers of Disease Control
