Area Leaders Assure That Utilities Are In Good Shape; But Urge Conservation

Rumors of utilities running out in Southwest Amarillo and across the area are false!.

Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson, Canyon Mayor Gary Hinders, Potter County Judge Nancy Tanner, Randall County Judge Christy Dyer, and Wes Reeves with Xcel, held a press conference to lay to rest misleading Facebook post.

In the message, a county commissioner states that they had received a report that Atomos energy would run out of natural gas.

This post is FAKE. ALL INFORMATION IN THIS POST IS FALSE!

Mayor Nelson says that while this weather event is extreme, utility companies are meeting the needs of the area, through product or repairs.

Nelson added “We’re in the midst of a historic weather event

that is testing our resolve and resources, and I have no doubt that we’ll join together again to take

care of each other.”

She went on to say that making a plan for your family, friends, and loved ones in case of a power outage is the prudent thing to do. Also conserve as much power as possible.

Canyon Mayor Gary Hinder added “We’ve faced difficulty before.

We’ve been tested before.” There’s no place I’d rather be during a time like this than in the Panhandle of Texas.”

Please check with your local municipality websites and social media

outlets for information on closures and resources.
