Area Health Officials Starting To See Flu And Covid Coinfection

Area Health Officials gave their weekly update on hospital rates in Amarillo.

Dr. Weis with Northwest Texas Hospital said there are 111 Covid patients, with 45 in the ICU and 24 on ventilators but the hospital did see 70 covid related deaths in november.

BSA has 194 Covid patients, with 72 of the 86 ICU patients with Covid.

Both Hospitals said they have started seeing coinfection patients with both the Flu and Covid.

The Amarillo VA has 15 patients with 8 in the ICU and 2 on ventilators.

All 3 hospitals said they are continuing to work with Amarillo Public Health to expand the critical care capacity and remind residents that it is still important to wear your mask and stay home if possible.
