APD Taking More Steps To Combat Underage Drinking

The Amarillo Police Department is taking more steps to combat Underage Drinking.

The Department has dedicated a new team of police officers to work on this task through education, deterrence, and enforcement of underage drinking laws.

under the City of Amarillo’s social host liability ordinance, renters and property owners will be held accountable if they allow a party to happen on property where underage drinking occurs they will be financially responsible for the cost of the police response as well as a $300 fine for the first offense.

Officers will respond to calls received from the public, Student Crime Stoppers tips, and information gathered from social media and other sources.

Amarillo and Canyon Independent School District Liaison Officers are part of this project and will be educating children on the dangers of drinking and the related consequences.
