Amarillo Race-A-Cop Event

After a successful inaugural year, Amarillo Police are coming back with the second Race-A-Cop program.

In 2022, APD says it had 1,450 people spectators and 177 drivers show up at the event.

The two Race-a-Cop events will be held at Amarillo Dragway, with the first on June 17 and the second on September 23.

APD officials say Amarillo has a street racing problem, and the program is a safe option to race while leaving out those who don’t want to sign up for the race.

Police say the point is not to take their cars, nor punish someone, but to get them to stop doing potentially dangerous and fatal street racing.
