Amarillo Proposes Police Pay Raise

Amarillo Police will possibly get a three percesnt increase preliminarily agreed to by the Police Officers Association in pay. .

The City Council preliminarily agreed with the association for the rank and file to increase the wage that will continue for three years.

Amarillo City Manager Jared Miller insists this is what the city will need to stay competitive.

The city and the police department modified the hiring process so that qualified applicants do’nt have to start at bottom ranks.

Under the agreement, officers who stay with the department will be allowed to put unused vacation time as additional pay.

The plan will revolve around whether voters approve a new tax rate in the upcoming November election.

If the plan does’nt pass, the city will still increase Officers pay by two percent.
