Amarillo Point-In-Time Count

The Amarillo Community Development Department has just conducted its first point-in-time count of 2023, where they find out just how many Amarillo residents experience homelessness.

The data is turned over to government agencies to determine how effective its policies and programs are within the city.

For the most recent PIT count, city officials say they had a good number of volunteers about 70 showing up from many agencies and organizations.

City officials say they are looking for trends, like a big drop or a huge increase in the numbers, so they’ll be able to put funding towards those gaps.

Final numbers have not been tabulated, and they’re making sure people were not counted twice.

They expect them in the next few weeks and plan to have the final numbers before Amarillo’s City Council by the end of February
