Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson Talks Mobile Morgue Units

Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson says mobile morgue units need to be brought to the city as Covid -19 cases continue to surge and overflow hospitals throughout the Panhandle.

Mayor Nelson spoke to the people of Amarillo through a Facebook video about the rapid spread of the disease in the city.

She acknowledged the hospitals in Amarillo are completely full and are breaking records with the number of patients they’re treating. Currently, there are more patients than there are beds in the city’s hospitals.

The morgue capacity has been expanded at the hospitals with a trailer and the city has requested a second trailer while they wait for a mobile unit to arrive in Amarillo.

The Mayor still stresses the use of precautionary actions on the part of the public with masks, and social distancing as a way to stop the spread of Covid.
