Amarillo Health Department; Whooping Cough

The City of Amarillo Public Health Department is providing the Amarillo community with tips to help prevent pertussis, also known and whooping cough.

Pertussis begins with cold symptoms and a cough, which worsen over one to two weeks. There have been 10 cases reported here over the past two months according to APHD Director Cassie Stoughton.

Symptoms usually include coughing fits, and coughs may be following by a whooping noise. In most cases, there is no fever, but coughs can be followed by vomiting, turning blue or difficulty catching breath.

Contact your doctor or care provider if you feel you may have whooping cough.
