Amarillo Fire Department Responds to Amarillo Zoo

The Amarillo Fire Department responded to the Amarillo Zoo Saturday on a possible hazardous material incident.

4 zoo officials has been cleaning out the “big cat” enclosure and start experiencing respiratory complaints but no odors or obvious smells were reported.

The HazMat team monitored the area and only found a small amount of ammonia in the area which is present in the urine of animals. 

No other hazards were found and no further actions were needed.

No patients were transported to the hospital.
