Amarillo Area CASA Needs Volunteers

Amarillo Area Court Appointed Special Advocates is looking for volunteers to give back to those in foster care.

Volunteers will act as court-appointed special advocates, going along with a child throughout every aspect of their case.

CASA cares for over 900 kids in Armstrong, Briscoe, Carson, Hutchinson, Potter, Randall, and Swisher Counties, but with an inadequate number of volunteers, they can only serve about 28 percent of the children in care.

The goal is to serve 100 percent of the children in foster care, but that can’t be done without more advocates.

Children without the Special Care advocates go with less than one-on-one attention, needed services, and experience further problems in the foster care system.

Those looking to volunteer as a CASA volunteer, be 21-years-old, pass a background check go through the interview process and be willing to serve 10 to 12 hours each month.

A volunteer training session is scheduled for November 7th from 5 to 8:00 p.m.
