AISD Will Use Desk Shields In COVID-19 Battle

In a meeting held Friday afternoon, The Amarillo Independent School District  Board of Trustees approved the purchase of desk shields for use in classrooms for student and staff protection from COVID-19.

The District is purchasing 30,000 desk shields from Demco, for just over $702,000, the funds will come from the Early Educational Allotment.

The Board stated that the financial decision had to be done and that 10,000 shields would be ready for AISD by the end of August, and the other 20,000 within the first two weeks of September.

The first order of shields will go to high schools due to the limitations of social distancing, but that plan is not final and a decision will be made once they find out who is enrolling virtually, and in person.
